Facing Death

beginning of the end

From our very first breath, we are all connected by a common truth: the inescapable fate of death. We’re faced with this riddle which seems impossible to decipher in the eyes of science. Diving into the neurologic processes that mark life’s final stages, as well as the little yet critical clues that pathology gives us, we’re able to unlock a new path into the other side.

In the module Facing Death: Beginning of the End, we aim to demystify the different aspects surrounding death and to better understand why it is not a closure but rather a profound mystery that shapes our understanding of life.

Speaker

Giuseppe Marulli, MD

Giuseppe Marulli, leading thoracic surgeon and professor at Humanitas University in Milan, brings his pioneering expertise to the AIMS Meeting 2025 module “Facing Death: Beginning of the End.” Renowned for his innovative use of cadaveric sternal allografts in chest wall reconstruction, he has expanded the frontiers of regenerative surgery. In this thought-provoking session, Dr Marulli will explore how tissue donation restores both function and dignity to patients facing life-altering procedures. His work bridges the space between loss and renewal, offering powerful reflections on how medicine can bring healing—structural and emotional—even in the face of death.
